Professor Colliot-Thélène is internationally well-known for his outstanding research in algebraic and arithmetic geometry, and number theory. He has made important contributions to the investigation of rational and integral points on rationally connected varieties, and to rationality questions in algebraic geometry. Together with his collaborators, he has introduced and much developed several important notions in these fields, including universal torsors, flasque tori, unramified cohomology and integral Brauer-Manin obstructions. In Germany, he intends to expand his recent work on Brauer-Manin obstructions and rationality questions.
